What data the app collects
The app collects practice data — which problems you've answered, how quickly, whether they were correct — for the purpose of showing you and your child their progress within the app. That data is stored on the device and, if iCloud is enabled, in your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework.
The app does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
- Your child's name, email address, phone number, or postal address.
- Your location.
- Your contacts, photos, calendar, or any other system data.
- Any device identifier used for advertising or tracking.
The app has no login system. There is no Math Katas account. There is no Math Katas server collecting your data.
Where data is stored
Locally on your device. All practice data is first written to local storage on the iPad or iPhone running the app. This data stays on the device unless you have iCloud sync enabled in iOS Settings.
In your private iCloud, if you have it enabled. If you have iCloud enabled in iOS Settings, the app uses Apple's CloudKit framework to sync practice data across your Apple devices. This data lives in your iCloud account, governed by Apple's privacy policy. I, the developer, do not have access to it.
In ClassKit, if a teacher uses it. If the app is used in a school context with ClassKit-enabled assignments, progress data may be shared with the school's Apple School Manager environment via Apple's ClassKit framework. This is governed by Apple's terms with the school. The app does not transmit any of this data to a third party.
Third parties
The app does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, attribution, or crash reporting services. No third parties receive data from the app under any circumstances.
Children's privacy
The app is designed for use by children studying multiplication and division. Because the app collects no personal information and uses no third-party services, it is structured to comply with COPPA and similar children's privacy regulations. If you are a parent or guardian and have any concern about how the app handles your child's data, please contact me at the address below.
Push notifications
The app may request permission to send local push notifications — for example, to remind a kid to do their daily Kata. These notifications are scheduled by your device, not by a remote server. You can disable them in iOS Settings at any time. The app does not send remote push notifications and does not have a notification server.
